The Kebbi State Police Command has assured political parties, candidates and other stakeholders of its neutrality and equal protection ahead of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.
Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia gave the assurance on Monday, September 7, in Birnin Kebbi at a stakeholders’ engagement ahead of the commencement of governorship and State House of Assembly campaigns on Sept. 9, 2026. He said the command would apply the law fairly to all political actors and citizens.
Hadejia warned against hate speech, ethnic and religious incitement, fake news, digital thuggery, vote buying, voter intimidation and destruction of campaign materials. He said offenders would face prosecution under the Cybercrime Act, Electoral Act 2022 and other relevant laws, stressing that no one was above the law.
The police boss said the command had commenced preparations and would deploy personnel across the state’s 21 local government areas. He urged parties to notify the police at least 48 hours before campaign activities, while INEC, the judiciary, DSS and the National Orientation Agency called for strict adherence to electoral rules, issue-based campaigns, responsible social media use and peaceful participation.
