The Nigerian Wrestling Federation (NWF) has concluded its open camping programme in Oklahoma, United States, as the country steps up preparations for the World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, later this year.This was revealed by the NWF head of Media, Promise Okotoko, on Monday, September 7, in Abuja.
According to the NWF, the camp provided Nigerian wrestlers with quality exposure and a competitive environment to sharpen their skills. The athletes also competed in dual meets against wrestlers from various NCAA Division I schools, giving the team an opportunity to test its strength against high-level opposition.
Nigeria’s Women’s Wrestling head coach, Akuh Purity, described the camp as a valuable part of the team’s preparations. She said the athletes remained committed to improving their performance, adding that the experience helped the coaching team assess the wrestlers’ current level and identify areas for improvement.
The Nigerian team is now focused on further preparations ahead of the championship, with the federation targeting a return to the World Championships podium after last achieving a medal finish in 2023.
