Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has cautioned traditional rulers against partisan politics, stressing that royal institutions must remain neutral and serve as a father to all, regardless of political affiliation.
Makinde spoke on Saturday September 5 in Eruwa during the first coronation anniversary of the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola, where he was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland. He warned that any traditional ruler who actively engages in politics risks being regarded as a politician.
The governor, who is seeking the presidency on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in 2027, said his campaign would take him across Nigeria to present his vision and seek support from citizens in different parts of the country.
Oba Adegbola said the chieftaincy title was conferred on Makinde in recognition of his achievements, while pledging continued support from traditional rulers in Ibarapaland. The event also featured the inauguration of the Eleruwa’s newly completed palace and calls for more roads and infrastructure in the area.
