The Osun State Police Command has debunked claims circulating online that some of its officers fled from an unverified drone, describing the reports as misleading and damaging to the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the footage was actually taken from a Yoruba film production titled “Omine fun Omine Part 2.” He explained that the movie was shot in May and featured a police patrol vehicle in one of its scenes.
According to Ojelabi, a bystander who was not part of the production crew recorded the scene and later circulated it with a false description suggesting that police officers were running away from a drone. He urged media organisations to verify footage before presenting it as evidence of police misconduct.
The command called on Television channels and other platforms that circulated the footage with the alleged false caption to retract it. Ojelabi said the police remained committed to professional policing in Osun and would resist deliberate distortion of images, videos or reports.
