Admission seekers and parents have raised concerns over the growing financial burden of securing admission into tertiary institutions, particularly the 4,000 naira fee for verification of O’Level results on the JAMB portal. They said expenses on JAMB registration, post-UTME screening, transportation, document printing and other requirements were already putting pressure on families, especially those with limited incomes.
JAMB, however, has clarified that candidates who previously uploaded their O’Level results do not need to upload them again or obtain a verification code under the Board’s new verification system. The Board said the 4,000 naira verification payment is made once and is intended to strengthen the integrity of O’Level results and prevent the acceptance of falsified results.
Parents and candidates interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday September 3 urged JAMB and tertiary institutions to consider the cumulative cost of the admission process and provide affordable alternatives where possible. They also called for clearer information on the verification fee and other charges to prevent confusion and ensure that qualified candidates are not prevented from completing their admission process because of financial difficulties.
Meanwhile, JAMB has reminded candidates that tertiary institution admissions must be processed through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and reflected on the official JAMB platform. The Board warned that admissions offered outside CAPS or without a JAMB admission letter are not recognised, urging candidates to beware of individuals or institutions promising admission through unofficial channels.
