The Nigerian military has confirmed the rescue of 21 kidnapped victims, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), from the Egume-Ochaja forest in Kogi State.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, said on Monday that the rescued victims comprised eight males and 13 females. The 15 corps members were among travellers abducted last week while reportedly travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja.
The rescue comes as security forces intensify operations against terrorists and criminal groups across the country. The military said it was also sustaining efforts to rescue residents recently abducted in Borgu, Niger State.
Onoja said the Armed Forces were working with other security agencies and state institutions through intelligence sharing and coordinated operations to identify areas requiring intervention and improve the safety of communities and travellers.
