The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed more than 40 personnel over alleged corruption and financial malpractice since Ola Olukoyede became chairman of the anti-graft agency. Olukoyede disclosed this on Monday at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja while reviewing the commission’s activities and achievements under his leadership.
The EFCC chairman said more than five of the dismissed officials are currently facing prosecution, while legal processes are ongoing against others. He stressed that the commission must apply the same standards to its personnel that it applies to Nigerians investigated for financial crimes.
As part of efforts to strengthen internal accountability, Olukoyede announced the renaming of the former Internal Affairs Department as the Department of Ethics and Integrity. He also disclosed plans to introduce a gift policy requiring officials to declare gifts above a specified value, including cash and material gifts received from relatives abroad.
Olukoyede warned that the fight against corruption must begin within the EFCC, insisting that officers investigating financial crimes must maintain high ethical standards. He said stronger internal discipline and accountability were essential to protecting the commission’s credibility and restoring public confidence.
