The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated a rehabilitated eight-classroom block, library, headmaster’s office and solar-powered industrial borehole at Group School 1, Igbainwari Community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Other projects delivered under the Chief of Naval Staff’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme included toilets, drainage facilities and electrification of the school.
Representing the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, at the inauguration, the Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Adm. Suleiman Ibrahim, said the intervention reflected the Navy’s commitment to civil-military cooperation and community development beyond its security responsibilities.
Project facilitator Rear Adm. Ebiobowei Zipele said the initiative was part of the Navy’s corporate social responsibility to host communities. He said the improved facilities would provide a better learning environment, while the solar-powered borehole would improve access to water.
Zipele added that the drainage system was designed to address perennial flooding at the school, stressing that the intervention would strengthen relations between security agencies and the communities they serve.
The Special Guest of Honour, Rear Adm. Olugbenga Oladipo, commended the initiative and urged residents to continue providing security agencies with credible information. The school’s headmistress, Mrs Roseline Odoguw, also thanked the Navy for the intervention.
