ISESE DAY: LAGOS TRADITIONAL RULERS PREACH RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE, PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE

Listen

Traditional rulers in Lagos State have called for religious tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence as traditional worshippers across the state celebrate the annual Isese Day festival.

The Lagos State Government declared Aug. 20 a work-free day for the celebration, which provides traditional worshippers an opportunity to honour and promote their cultural heritage and beliefs.

Oba Adeyemi Adeniyi, Oba of Igbobi Sabe, commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting the annual observance and urged residents to respect one another’s religious beliefs, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

Oba Sulaiman Ogun-Oloko, Oniwaya of Iwaya Land, Yaba, also urged youths to embrace Yoruba culture and promote unity in their communities. He called for peaceful political participation and rejected perceptions that traditional worship was harmful.

Chief John Kito, Baale Titun of Makoko Community, thanked the state government for recognising traditional worshippers and creating an opportunity for them to celebrate their culture and beliefs.

The traditional leaders stressed that cultural diversity should be used to strengthen unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence rather than create division.
