The President of the Niger Delta Youth Network (NDYN), Comrade Scott Ogunseri, has urged youths across the region to reject criminality, oil bunkering and drug abuse, while embracing education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and technology.
Ogunseri made the call at a news conference in Abuja to mark the 2026 International Youth Day, stressing that young people should not only be regarded as leaders of tomorrow but also as partners and leaders in development today.
He urged Niger Delta youths to remain disciplined, peace-loving and focused on productive activities, warning that criminal behaviour could destroy their future and undermine the development of the region. He also called on governments and other stakeholders to create more opportunities for young people and involve them in decision-making.
The NDYN president reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to youth empowerment, leadership development, education and entrepreneurship. He commended the Federal Government, Niger Delta governors, NDDC, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Tantita Security Services and other stakeholders for supporting youth development initiatives.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the 1,000 Youth CEOs Initiative, aimed at developing 1,000 young entrepreneurs across the Niger Delta in 2026 under the theme, “From Ideas to Enterprises: Empowering the Next Generation of Niger Delta CEOs.”
Ogunseri said the initiative would equip young people with skills and opportunities to build sustainable enterprises and contribute to regional development.
He urged youths to choose education over crime, innovation over destruction and unity over division, stressing that the future of the Niger Delta would depend on the choices young people make today.
