The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied any involvement in a reported ₦200 levy allegedly being collected by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in connection with the mobilisation of graduates for national service.
In a statement, NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, said the agency had neither discussed nor agreed to any levy with NANS. She also said the NYSC had not entered into any agreement with the student body regarding the collection of money from students.
Embu explained that NYSC mobilisation is carried out through official channels involving the agency and Heads of Corps Producing Institutions, which provide information on eligible graduates. She stressed that the process is not linked to the activities of any student association.
The NYSC urged students and prospective corps members to disregard claims that payment of a levy to NANS or any other association is required for mobilisation.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible mobilisation process and advised students to rely only on official NYSC information for guidance on national service mobilisation.
