The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity cult group and recovered a locally made pistol and live ammunition in Mushin.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement on Monday that operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) apprehended the suspects following intelligence on cult-related activities in the area.
According to her, the first suspect arrested allegedly identified himself as a former chairman of the group and provided information that led police to a location in Idi-Oro, Mushin, where a locally made Beretta pistol and a 9mm live ammunition were recovered.
Adebisi said three other suspected members were subsequently arrested at Ojuwoye, Mushin. She added that the suspects were assisting with investigations while efforts continued to identify and apprehend other members of the group.
The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, commended the VCRU operatives for what he described as an intelligence-driven operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cult-related violence and other criminal activities across Lagos.
Police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities to support efforts to maintain public safety.
