Nigeria has recorded 1,000 confirmed cases of Lassa fever and 237 deaths across 23 states as of epidemiological week 30 of 2026, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
The NCDC’s latest situation report, covering July 13 to July 26, put the case fatality rate at 23.7 per cent, compared with 18.8 per cent during the corresponding period in 2025.
The agency said 17 new confirmed cases were recorded in week 30, a slight decline from the 20 cases reported the previous week. The latest cases were reported in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo and Benue states.
A total of 116 Local Government Areas across the 23 affected states had recorded at least one confirmed case by week 30. Bauchi, Ondo, Taraba, Benue and Edo accounted for 86 per cent of the confirmed cases during the period under review.
The NCDC said people aged 21 to 30 years remained the most affected age group. One healthcare worker also tested positive in week 30, compared with none in the previous week.
The latest figures highlight the continuing public health challenge posed by Lassa fever, with health authorities monitoring new infections and strengthening measures to limit further transmission.
