The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has arrested 28 suspects and recovered assorted illicit substances during raids on suspected drug joints in Rimin Gado and Doka communities.
The Chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Magaji, said the operation was conducted on August 7 in five locations within Tofa Local Government Area as part of efforts to disrupt drug-related criminal activities and protect communities from the effects of substance abuse.
Magaji said the operation began in his hometown, Rimin Gado, as a deliberate demonstration that enforcement would be carried out without bias. He stressed that the campaign would be extended beyond Kano metropolis to all 44 local government areas of the state.
He said the task force would combine enforcement with prevention, rehabilitation and community engagement. According to him, officials would work with community leaders, health and educational institutions and regulatory agencies to raise awareness, strengthen controls and support people affected by substance use.
Magaji stressed that legitimate businesses were not the target of the operation, saying the objective was to protect law-abiding traders and communities from the consequences of drug trafficking and abuse.
He said investigations into the arrests were ongoing and suspects found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. He also urged residents to report suspicious activities and provide useful information to help authorities combat drug trafficking.
