Nigeria and Mali have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation on issues of mutual interest, particularly regional security and stability.
The commitment followed the presentation of Nigeria’s Letters of Credence by Ambassador-Designate Geoffrey Chima to Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, in Bamako. The ceremony was followed by bilateral discussions on ways to deepen relations between the two countries.
According to a statement issued by the Office of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, both sides agreed to strengthen diplomatic consultation mechanisms as part of efforts to build a more productive and mutually beneficial South-South partnership.
The discussions also examined the changing geopolitical situation in West Africa, with Nigeria and Mali stressing the need for stronger cooperation in tackling terrorism and other security threats affecting the sub-region.
Both countries further emphasised solidarity, constructive political dialogue and mutual trust among African states as essential to addressing shared challenges, promoting peace and stability, and supporting sustainable development across the region.
