A Kano Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old woman, Maimuna Idris, for allegedly cutting off her boyfriend’s manhood.
Idris, who resides in Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, is facing charges of attempted culpable homicide and causing grievous hurt. The prosecution alleged that the incident occurred on July 27 at a hotel in Badawa Quarters, Kano.
According to the prosecution counsel, H.A. Sani-Buhari, police received a report from the management of Durbar Hotel that the defendant had allegedly attacked her boyfriend, identified as Ashiru Sani, with a sharp object. The victim was subsequently taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.
The prosecution told the court that the alleged attack followed the defendant’s discovery that the victim intended to marry another woman. Idris pleaded guilty to the charges, which the prosecution said contravened Sections 229 and 248 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Sadiya Usman ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre and adjourned the case until September 9 for further mention. The allegations remain subject to the court’s determination.
