A 14-year-old student allegedly killed his two grandparents before carrying out a deadly attack at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province, leaving six students and teachers dead, according to police. The suspected attacker also died, bringing the total number of fatalities to nine. Authorities said at least 15 people were injured, although emergency reports indicate the figure could be higher as casualty records are being verified.
Police said the teenager allegedly used a firearm believed to belong to his grandfather before launching the attack at the school in Bang Kruai district, near Bangkok. Investigators are yet to establish a motive, and while some reports have suggested possible bullying, authorities have not confirmed any reason behind the incident.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed condolences to the victims’ families and directed relevant agencies to provide support to those affected. The attack is the country’s second fatal school shooting this year, renewing concerns over school safety, access to firearms and mental health support for young people.
Police have launched a full investigation into how the suspect obtained the weapon and whether there were warning signs before the attacks. Officials also warned that casualty figures could change as hospitals continue to reconcile reports from emergency responders.
