An entrepreneur and environmental enthusiast, Precious Filibus, has urged parents to encourage their children to participate in creative training programmes during school holidays to develop practical skills and improve their future opportunities. Speaking in an interview, Filibus said hands-on learning helps children discover their talents, build confidence and remain productively engaged outside the classroom.
Filibus, a graduate of Environmental and Safety Technology from Kaduna Polytechnic, highlighted the growing potential of upcycling, particularly the reuse of Ankara and fabric waste into useful products. She explained that discarded materials can be transformed into items such as earrings, bangles and book covers, creating income opportunities while promoting environmental sustainability.
She noted that her focus is on teaching children creative skills, saying many young people possess natural talent but often lack the guidance and opportunities needed to develop it. According to her, supporting creativity alongside formal education can equip children with valuable entrepreneurial and life skills.
Filibus called on parents to strike a balance between academics and vocational development by allowing their children to attend holiday training programmes. She said such initiatives can nurture innovation, unlock hidden talents and prepare young people for a wider range of future opportunities.
