The Kwara State Police Command has commenced statewide enforcement of traffic laws to reduce road crashes, ease congestion and improve compliance with road safety regulations. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, issued the directive following concerns over increasing disregard for traffic rules by some motorists and other road users.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the exercise is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and is aimed at restoring order and promoting safer roads across the state. She said the operation would be conducted professionally and would not be targeted at law-abiding residents.
The command directed officers involved in the exercise to respect the rights and dignity of members of the public while enforcing traffic regulations. It also warned that any police personnel found violating traffic rules or engaging in misconduct would face disciplinary action in line with Nigeria Police Force regulations.
The police urged motorists, commercial vehicle operators, tricycle and motorcycle riders and other road users to obey traffic signs, observe speed limits, avoid reckless driving and ensure their vehicle documents are up to date. The command appealed for public cooperation, assuring residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and promoting responsible road use across Kwara.
