A total of 176 women and children abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom, six months after they were taken captive during a deadly attack on the community. The Kwara State Government announced the release on Wednesday, describing it as a major breakthrough in ongoing security efforts.
The victims were among residents abducted during the February 2026 attack, in which more than 200 people were reportedly killed. The incident left the Woro community in Kwara North devastated, with families spending months awaiting the return of their loved ones.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara Governor on Communications, Ibraheem Abdullateef, confirmed the release and commended President Bola Tinubu, security forces and others involved in securing the victims’ freedom. He described the development as a significant milestone for the state and affected families.
The circumstances surrounding the victims’ release were not immediately disclosed, including whether it followed a rescue operation or negotiations. Their return has nevertheless brought relief and renewed hope to families and residents who have endured months of uncertainty following the attack.
