The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has urged Nigerians, particularly job seekers, to verify employment and migration offers before accepting them to avoid falling victim to human traffickers.
NAPTIP Director-General, Binta Adamu-Bello, gave the warning in Abuja during activities marking the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, themed “Trapped Behind the Scam.” She urged parents, schools, religious and traditional leaders to intensify awareness and help young people identify deceptive recruitment schemes.
Adamu-Bello also called on the media, financial institutions, telecommunications companies, technology platforms, travel agencies and recruitment firms to strengthen efforts against trafficking-related scams. She said NAPTIP had expanded awareness campaigns across schools, communities, markets, motor parks, places of worship and digital platforms.
She urged Nigerians to pause and seek professional guidance whenever an opportunity appears too good to be true. The NAPTIP boss said suspected cases of trafficking, forced labour, child exploitation or fraudulent recruitment should be reported through the agency’s toll-free emergency line 627, stressing that timely information could help save lives.
