The Lagos State Government has expanded its free hepatitis screening and vaccination campaign to Ikorodu, Isolo and Ajeromi as part of activities marking the 2026 World Hepatitis Day. Residents are receiving free Hepatitis B and C tests, counselling, vaccination and referrals for treatment where necessary.
State AIDS Programme Coordinator, Dr. Oladipupo Fisher, said the initiative is aimed at increasing public awareness and encouraging more people to know their hepatitis status. He noted that residents who test negative for Hepatitis B will receive free vaccines, while those who test positive will be referred to designated health facilities for specialist care.
According to Fisher, the state has strengthened hepatitis services in 28 health facilities and continues to invest in testing, vaccination and public education. He stressed that early diagnosis and treatment can prevent serious complications such as liver cancer, while urging residents to complete all three doses of the Hepatitis B vaccine for full protection.
The outreach, organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Health in partnership with the Blessed Medical Aid Foundation and other health organisations, also received praise from beneficiaries, who described the free services as timely and accessible. Health officials urged Nigerians to get tested, get vaccinated and seek treatment early to help eliminate viral hepatitis.
