Two sisters, Chinenye Anyigor, 32, and Njideka Anyigor, 36, have been arraigned before an Anambra State Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka over allegations of exploiting three teenage girls.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and illegal dealing in children. According to the prosecution, the alleged offences took place between February and June 2026 in Okofia, Otolo, Nnewi, where the teenagers, aged between 16 and 17, were allegedly taken into custody for street hawking.
The prosecution told the court that the charges were filed under relevant provisions of the Anambra State Criminal Code and the Child Rights Law. The allegations are yet to be tested in court, and the defendants remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Chief Magistrate U.E. Onochie granted the sisters bail in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety in like sum and adjourned the matter until August 12 for a report on compliance with the bail conditions.
