The Kogi State Police Command says it has concluded investigations into the death of Mariam Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area, with three suspects set to be prosecuted for alleged criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, disclosed in a statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday July 8 that detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) launched an investigation after the case was officially reported on June 25, 2026. According to the police, the investigation uncovered a series of alleged assaults on the deceased before she eventually died from the injuries she sustained.
The statement revealed that on June 17, 2026, one Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted Mariam Usman at her residence following disciplinary measures she had taken against his 11-year-old son while carrying out her duties at the school. Police further alleged that later that same day, while the teacher was on her way to the mosque for prayers, she was attacked again by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
Investigators also alleged that on June 18, Ojonojima Mary, identified as the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, visited Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, where she allegedly assaulted the deceased at her workplace. The police said the victim was first treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka before being referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical attention. She died on June 25 as a result of the injuries she sustained.
The police command said the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution. It further urged residents to avoid resorting to self-help or violence in resolving disputes, stressing that grievances should always be addressed through lawful channels.
