As conversations around electoral reforms and democratic accountability continue across Nigeria, the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) is bringing together media leaders, policymakers, academics and students for a crucial discussion on the role of the media, electoral institutions and voters in strengthening credible elections.
The Nigerian Guild of Editors has announced that the 4th edition of the Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture will hold on July 23, 2026, at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
This year’s lecture is themed “The Media, INEC, Voters and Path to Credible Elections” and will be delivered by political scientist, Sylvester Odion Akhaine. Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, will chair the event.
According to the Guild, the annual lecture series was established in 2023 to preserve the legacy of Lateef Jakande, whose contributions to journalism and public service remain widely celebrated.
Expected guests include Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, veteran journalist Segun Osoba, and renowned publisher Sam Amuka-Pemu, alongside top editors, media executives, civil society groups, academics and students.
The Guild says the memorial lecture has become an important platform for thought leadership, policy discussions and national reflection, while also inspiring the next generation of journalists through direct engagement with industry professionals.
Since its launch in 2023, the lecture has featured prominent speakers including Felix Adenaike, Nduka Obaigbena and Bala Mohammed.
