Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, delivered a dominant 106-62 victory over Rwanda on Sunday July 05 to complete an unbeaten run in the third window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers in Luanda, Angola.

The emphatic win secured Nigeria’s place in the second round of the qualifiers after earlier hard-fought victories over Guinea (80-79) and Tunisia (84-81), reviving the team’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking after the match, assistant coach David Vanterpool said the team achieved its immediate objective of winning all three games but remained focused on the bigger task ahead. He stressed that preparations would continue as the qualification campaign is far from over.

Veteran forward Stan Okoye described the unbeaten outing as a major confidence boost, saying representing Nigeria remains a privilege. He added that the players are determined to maintain their momentum and complete the qualification journey successfully.

After overcoming a difficult start to the campaign, D’Tigers now head into the next phase with renewed confidence and momentum as they continue their quest for a place at the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.
