The Kwara State Police Command has arrested 3 suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity over the alleged abduction and murder of 29-year old Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, following weeks of investigation into the victim’s disappearance.
The suspects, identified as Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, Bernard Kayode, 25, and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, were arrested during coordinated operations by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) across identified cult hideouts in Ilorin metropolis on Monday, June 29, 2026.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday July 1in Ilorin. According to her, the arrests followed credible intelligence and sustained investigations into the disappearance of Olaniyi, who had been declared missing since June 4, 2026.
She said preliminary findings revealed that the suspects belonged to the Eiye cult group. She added that the suspects had confessed to their respective roles in the abduction and execution of Olaniyi. She further revealed that a total of 12 suspects were linked to the crime, with 9 others currently on the run.
According to Ejire-Adeyemi, security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, dismantle the criminal network, and recover the victim’s remains.
