Listen

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has strongly condemned the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Risku Mohammed, and his associate.

In a statement on Sunday, Akume described the killings as a setback to ongoing peacebuilding efforts in Benue State. He said the incident was an attack on the trust, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence that communities in the state have worked hard to achieve in recent years.

The SGF called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that everyone connected to the crime is identified, arrested and prosecuted. He stressed that those responsible must not be allowed to undermine the security gains recorded in the state.

Akume also urged residents to remain calm, avoid reprisals and continue supporting efforts to maintain peace. Extending condolences to the families of the victims and members of MACBAN, he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to combating insecurity and ensuring that justice is served.
