The Strategic Border Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko, Ogun, on Friday June 26, appealed to Nigerian youths to resist peer pressure on hard drugs intake.
Mr Olaniyi Ekundayo, the Commander of the NDLEA Special Area, gave the advice as the world commemorates the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The World Drug Day is observed globally on June 26 every year.
Ekundayo stressed that the day provided an opportunity to sensitise the public, especially the youth, to the dangers of drug abuse, and to the need for healthier lifestyles. He urged people already abusing substances to seek professional help through qualified counsellors. He also appealed to parents and guardians to sensitise their wards to the dangers and risks associated with drug abuse.
Ekundayo further commended all tiers of government for their interventions in the fight against drug abuse. He also stressed the need for sustained public enlightenment, community participation and stronger collaboration among stakeholders to address drug abuse in the country.
