Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called for greater understanding, kindness and inclusion for people living with vitiligo, urging society to embrace diversity and reject all forms of stigma and discrimination.
In a message to commemorate World Vitiligo Day on Thursday June 25 in Awka, Soludo said the day was an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of diversity and recognise the dignity of every individual regardless of skin appearance.
The governor’s wife stressed the need to promote awareness and foster a culture of acceptance for people living with the skin condition. According to her, it is time for society to encourage understanding, kindness and inclusion for all persons, irrespective of their differences.
World Vitiligo Day is observed every June 25 to raise awareness about vitiligo, a long-term skin condition characterised by the loss of pigmentation in patches of the skin, and to advocate for the rights and wellbeing of those affected. The theme for 2026’s commemoration is “From Stigma to Strength”.
