The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspect believed to be involved in suppling food items and other materials to bandits operating in parts of the state. The arrest, carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), followed intelligence gathering and covert surveillance.
According to a statement issued on Thursday June 18 by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspect was apprehended in Ilorin after investigations linked him to the movement and supply of materials suspected to be destined for criminals hiding in forested and remote areas.
Items recovered from the suspect included a large quantity of assorted cigarette brands and other provisions. The statement added that investigators also recovered photographs from his mobile phone showing him dressed in military camouflage and seated on a Bajaj motorcycle, further strengthening his suspected link to bandits.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Adekimi Ojo, said security agencies were intensifying efforts to target not only armed criminals, but also individuals and groups providing them with support.
The latest arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police force to strengthen intelligence-driven policing and disrupt criminal operations across the country.
