The Federal Government, on Monday June 15, began another batch of mass trial of suspected terrorists charged with terrorism-related offences in Abuja. The trial, which usually takes place at Kainji in Niger state, was moved to the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja.

The trial is taking place in all the courtrooms in the FHC, and is expected to last for one week. No fewer than 58 suspected terrorists were listed for trial on Monday before Justice Nwite, with most other matters scheduled for Monday June15 at the court, rescheduled. Security has also been beefed up in and around the Central Business District and the Abuja Federal High Court.

The AGF, Mr Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, leading the Federal Government’s team of Lawyers, in speaking to newsmen, said the 500 suspects being prosecuted were the Phase 9 of the mass trial of suspected terrorists in Abuja. He cited logistics reasons for the transfer of the cases to Abuja from Kainji.

500 suspected terrorists were also earlier tried between April 7 and April 10 at the FHC in Abuja.
