Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, has called for urgent measures to create a more business-friendly environment, and to drive entrepreneurship and economic growth.
He made this call on Saturday June 13 at This Generation Project 2026, the annual conference of Summit Bible Church in Abuja, themed “Thriving in the Marketplace”.
Obi argued that agriculture offered greater opportunities for wealth creation than crude oil, and that farmers would do better if assured adequate security and support. He also considered entrepreneurship central to economic growth and societal transformation, advocating the revival of the apprenticeship system, whereby the successful, mentor and empower younger generations.
While lamenting the growing preference for politics over productive enterprise in Nigeria, Obi urged public office holders to embrace integrity and selfless service.
According to Obi, public office should be about service, and creating opportunities that enable citizens to build sustainable livelihoods.
