EXPERT CALLS FOR JUSTICE, ELECTORAL REFORMS, TO STRENGHTEN NIGERIA’S DEMOCRACY

Listen

A political scientist, and peace and security activist, Dr Aliyu Yero, has called for justice, accountability and reforms in Nigeria’s democratic process to strengthen governance and improve citizens’ welfare.

Yero made the call in an interview on Friday June 12 in Kaduna, while reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey and the challenges facing the country, stating that recent developments have raised concerns among citizens about the future of the democratic process. He said beyond elections, many Nigerians were more concerned about the socio-economic benefits expected from democratic governance, as they were presently being burdened by rising cost of living.

The political scientist stressed the need for stronger institutions, credible elections and adherence to the rule of law. He said the rule of law must apply equally to all citizens, regardless of status.

He urged political leaders and stakeholders to work towards reforms that would promote transparency, equity and inclusive governance in the country.
