Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a nursing mother and her six-month-old baby after suspected kidnappers abandoned them during a pursuit operation in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The rescue followed a late-night attack on a residence near Solid Rock School in the Ijalu area of Egbe on Wednesday June 3, during which armed men reportedly abducted five members of a family. The victims were said to include a woman, her infant child and three other relatives.
Confirming the development, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said troops swiftly responded to a distress call and launched a manhunt for the kidnappers in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN). According to him, the sustained pressure mounted by security operatives forced the abductors to abandon two of their captives along the Oro axis, while attempting to evade arrest.
Abdullahi disclosed that the rescued mother and child were safely reunited with their family, while efforts had been intensified to secure the freedom of the remaining abducted persons.
