Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has announced Engr. Kale Kawu as the consensus governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
In a statement released on Saturday May 23, the former Kwara governor said the party resolved to adopt Kawu as its flagbearer in a bid to strengthen unity and improve the PDP’s chances in the forthcoming election.
Saraki commended other aspirants who stepped down from the race to support the consensus arrangement, describing their action as a demonstration of commitment to the party’s collective interest and the development of Kwara State. He also urged party members, delegates and supporters to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct during the party’s governorship primaries scheduled for Sunday.
The announcement is expected to shape political discourse within the PDP in Kwara as preparations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
