The Kwara State Fire Service has organized a safety sensitization programme for staff members of the Kwara State College of Education as part of efforts to improve emergency preparedness and reduce risks associated with fire outbreaks and flooding.
The awareness programme, held on Tuesday May 12, focused on educating participants on preventive safety measures, disaster response techniques, and practical steps to protect lives and property during emergencies.
Officials of the Fire Service exposed participants to the common causes of fire incidents, safe handling of electrical appliances and cooking gas, evacuation procedures, and ways to minimize flood-related dangers in homes, offices, and public institutions.
The exercise was coordinated by the Officer in Charge of Administration, Issa Adewale Sikiru, alongside the Public Relations Officer of the agency as part of ongoing public enlightenment campaigns by the Service.
Speaking on the importance of the programme, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFS Alabi Mohammed, urged residents to make safety a priority and comply with preventive measures capable of averting disasters.
He also appealed to members of the public to promptly report fire outbreaks and other emergencies to relevant authorities for immediate intervention.
