Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected terrorist during a coordinated ambush operation in a forest corridor in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation, conducted under Operation TIGER PAW II, took place in the Adankolo Forest Reserve, where soldiers intercepted suspected armed men believed to be using the route as a movement and logistics corridor.

According to the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, troops of the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group acted on credible intelligence and mounted an ambush at a suspected crossing point in the early hours of Sunday, 10 May 2026.

He said the troops came under fire upon contact and immediately responded, leading to a gun duel that resulted in the neutralisation of one suspect, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

A follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.

Other recovered items include a camouflage bandolier, one Honda motorcycle, three mobile phones, three power banks, medical drugs, and ₦62,900 in cash.

Lt. Abdullahi added that troops are currently conducting follow-up clearance operations to track down the fleeing suspects and deny them freedom of movement within the forest.

He said the operation forms part of sustained efforts to dismantle armed groups and enhance security across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
