Police in Katsina have launched a full-scale manhunt after suspected bandits carried out a deadly reprisal attack in Kankia communities, killing 11 people.
Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, says the attack came after recent security operations disrupted bandit activities in the area. Just days earlier, officers foiled cattle rustling attempts in Gadar Yan Tulu and Kartaka, recovering 205 animals.
Security forces also repelled another attack in Matinjin, forcing several bandits to flee with gunshot wounds and abandoning eight motorcycles.
But the criminals regrouped—and struck back.
Around midday on Sunday, they attacked Jeka da Kolo and Kwalgoro villages in a violent raid that left multiple casualties before tactical teams moved in.
The police boss described the assault as “cowardly and barbaric,” assuring residents that those behind it will be tracked down and prosecuted.
Extra tactical units have now been deployed, with bush-combing operations and coordinated patrols ongoing to hunt down the attackers.
Authorities are urging residents to stay alert and share useful information, as efforts intensify to restore peace.
