CASHEW INDUSTRY CRIES OUT: “GIVE US SUPPORT OR LOSE GLOBAL EDGE”

Listen

The National Cashew Association of Nigeria is calling on the Federal Government to step in with incentives to revive Nigeria’s struggling cashew value chain.

Its president, Joseph Ajanaku, says high production, storage, and processing costs are squeezing farmers and processors making it hard to compete globally.

Top of the wishlist: low-interest loans (3–5%) for processors, instead of the current 25–35% rates, plus better support for farmers dealing with logistics and rising expenses.

The stakes are high—over 5 million Nigerians depend on the sector, yet output has dropped from about 700,000 metric tonnes to roughly 350,000, while countries like Côte d’Ivoire surge ahead.

Ajanaku warns that without smart policies, Nigeria risks losing both jobs and market share.
