Listen

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is celebrating Superintendent Nafisat Balogun after she secured a commercial multi-engine pilot licence in the United States, becoming the first female pilot in the service.

According to NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, Balogun was honoured at a ceremony by the Customs Technical Hangar Service, marking a major milestone in a field largely dominated by men.

Managing Director of the Hangar Service, Capt. Kuhi Mbaya, described her journey—from cabin attendant to certified pilot—as inspiring, noting that her achievement reflects growing opportunities within the service.

He added that her success sets a new standard and encourages more women to pursue careers in specialised fields.

Mbaya also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for promoting gender inclusion within the agency.

In her response, Balogun expressed gratitude to the NCS for its support and pledged continued dedication and professionalism in her duties.

Her achievement reinforces the service’s push for inclusion and highlights new pathways for women in aviation.
