TYLA DOES IT AGAIN: SA STAR SNAGS GRAMMY, NIGERIA MISSES OUT

“Push 2 Start” powers South Africa’s Tyla to another Grammy as Nigerian heavyweights fall short

South African pop sensation Tyla has clinched Best African Music Performance at the 68th Grammy Awards, edging out a strong Nigerian lineup and sealing her second Grammy win.

The ceremony lit up the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday night, with Tyla’s viral hit “Push 2 Start” beating Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido & Omah Lay’s “With You,” Ayra Starr & Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”

At just 24, Tyla continues her Grammy streak after first winning in 2024 with “Water,” reinforcing South Africa’s growing presence on the global music stage.

For Nigeria, however, it was a rare quiet night. Despite multiple nominations, Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Ayra Starr and Omah Lay went home empty-handed. Burna Boy also missed out in Best Global Music Album, losing to Brazilian icons Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.

The Best African Music Performance category, introduced in 2024, has now crowned Tyla twice, with Tems winning in 2025 — a sign of Africa’s expanding influence at the Grammys.
