FAAN goes green with shuttles and sedans to boost efficiency and cut emissions
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially deployed 10 electric shuttle buses and 20 electric sedans at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) to enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience.
FAAN Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, said the move is part of ongoing efforts to modernise airport operations and align Nigeria’s aviation sector with global sustainability standards, including ICAO’s net-zero carbon target for 2050. “These EVs are cleaner, quieter, and energy-efficient, improving airport logistics and reducing carbon footprint,” he noted.
FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, added that this first phase of EV deployment is a milestone for greener airport operations, with plans to expand to Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport and other airports nationwide. She also highlighted FAAN’s ongoing cashless payment initiative, aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and the passenger experience.
The authority said the initiative supports staff mobility, airside logistics, and environmental sustainability, marking a major step towards Nigeria’s vision of future-ready, eco-friendly airports.
