IBUAM says it’s training the next generation of pilots, engineers and aviation leaders
Founder of the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), Isaac Balami, says the institution was created to fix Nigeria’s aviation manpower shortage and leadership gaps.
Balami spoke in Lagos while hosting a Borno State Government delegation, on a campus visit to assess facilities ahead of the state’s aviation scholarship programme. Governor Babagana Zulum had approved 54 scholarship slots for indigent Borno youths to study piloting, aeronautical engineering and related courses at the university.
According to Balami, IBUAM is licensed by the NUC to run 11 specialised programmes, including aerospace, mechatronics and systems engineering, with strong hands-on training. Students, he said, will log up to 1,000 hours of practical workshop and hangar experience before graduation—enough to meet global employability standards.
He added that the goal is to restore Nigeria’s old reputation as an exporter of skilled aviation professionals, supported by seasoned instructors with real industry experience.
Leading the Borno team, Dr Bala Isa, Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, said the facilities and learning environment were impressive and fit for purpose. He noted that the programme reflects Borno’s commitment to technical education and praised Balami—a Borno indigene and former scholarship beneficiary—for giving back through specialised education investment.
