UNEP CALLS FOR MINING REFORMS TO DRIVE SUSTAINABLE CLEAN ENERGY INVESTMENT

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is urging major reforms in mining finance, governance, and regulation to support a fair and clean energy transition. Their new report highlights that mineral extraction now makes up half of global raw material use, pushing urgent need for responsible investment as demand for key clean energy minerals surges.

UNEP stresses the need for sustainable mining practices tied to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, promoting recycling, digital tracking, and global cooperation. The report calls for as much as $800 billion investment by 2040 to meet climate goals while respecting human rights and the environment.
