In Borno’s fight against insurgency, the message is clear: no safe havens — and no sympathy for collaborators.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has defended the recent airstrike on Jilli community, insisting it targeted a known insurgent hub — not innocent civilians.
The operation, carried out by troops under Operation Hadin Kai, hit what security forces believe was a key logistics base used by insurgents operating between Borno State and Yobe State.
Zulum explained that the Jilli market — along with nearby Gazabure — had already been shut down years ago due to its links to insurgent activities, making it a long-standing security concern.
While acknowledging public worries, the governor stressed that civilian safety remains a priority but warned residents against aiding insurgents in any form — whether through shelter, information, or supplies.
He also revealed ongoing collaboration with neighboring states and the military to tighten security around border communities and prevent a resurgence of criminal networks.
His advice to residents? Stay alert, cooperate with security agencies, and share credible intelligence.
Bottom line: the crackdown continues — and authorities say community support is key to ending the insurgency.
