One viral video, millions of eyes — and now, an official police investigation is in motion.
The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into alleged misconduct by officers from the Satellite Town Division in Lagos after a video of the incident went viral online.
Force Public Relations Officer Aliyu Giwa confirmed the probe via his X handle, saying the police moved quickly after the clip surfaced on April 4.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer and officers involved have already been summoned, with statements taken and interviews underway as part of the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have occurred in May 2025, while efforts continue to reach key witnesses, including victims in the viral footage.
Giwa stressed that the process is not a cover-up, but a push for accountability — adding that no officer is above the law and no incident is too old to be investigated.
The video, posted by an X user known as Rhapstar, showed officers stopping a vehicle, ordering occupants out, and conducting a roadside search — sparking public debate over police conduct during stop-and-search operations.
Police say they are listening closely to public concerns, noting that citizen feedback played a key role in triggering the investigation.
The video went viral — and now the investigation has gone official.
