OKPEBHOLO KICKS OFF EDO ‘BACK-TO-FARM’ DRIVE, EQUIPS FARMERS FOR 2026 SEASON

Listen to the story

In Edo, farming just got a serious upgrade — and farmers are heading back to the land with tools, support, and a fresh push for food security.

Governor Monday Okpebholo has officially launched the second phase of Edo’s “Back to Farm” initiative, rolling out a fresh batch of agricultural inputs to farmers across the state.

The distribution, flagged off in Benin City, included everything from fertilisers and knapsack sprayers to gloves, safety gear, fish processing kits, gas cylinders, and other farm tools designed to boost productivity.

According to the state government, the move is part of efforts to strengthen food security and encourage more structured, modern farming under the SHINE development agenda.

Represented at the event by Secretary to the State Government Musa Ikhilor, the governor reiterated that agriculture remains a non-negotiable pillar of survival and economic stability — and warned against diversion of farm inputs meant for genuine farmers.

Agriculture Commissioner Jerry Uwangue added that the initiative is aimed at preparing farmers ahead of the 2026 planting season and promoting smarter farming practices.

Farmers, meanwhile, welcomed the support — but are already asking for more to boost yields and make the season a successful one.

Bottom line: Edo is not just talking farming — it’s fully investing in it.
