ENUGU BOOSTS SOCIAL SUPPORT WITH LAUNCH OF NG-CARES 2.0

In Enugu, social support is no longer a promise it’s already reaching hundreds of thousands, and now it’s getting a bigger upgrade.

The Enugu State Government has unveiled NG-CARES 2.0, expanding its social support drive after reaching over 500,000 people and more than 10,000 businesses since 2022 under the EN-CARES programme.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Chris-Robert Ozongwu, says the programme has already delivered real impact — from improved farming support to community infrastructure like solar-powered water systems.

According to him, over 217 community projects have been completed, helping farmers produce more, earn more, and stabilize their livelihoods, while small businesses have been cushioned from economic shocks.

Now, NG-CARES 2.0 is stepping things up. The new phase will extend solar water systems to over 100 communities, provide public toilets in 127 communities, and support thousands more farmers with inputs and equipment.

It will also build a social register covering over 250,000 households to better target assistance — basically, making sure help gets to the people who need it most.

Ozongwu praised Governor Peter Mbah for what he called a people-first, results-driven approach, and acknowledged support from the World Bank and other partners.

Bottom line: Enugu is scaling up welfare — and making sure no one is left behind.
