If you’re planning for Enugu politics, mark your calendar — the race for council seats just got a new official timeline.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission has rolled out a revised timetable for the 2026 local government elections, setting September 26 as the main election day.
Chairman Christian Ngwu announced the update in Enugu, noting that the changes align with the new Electoral Act 2026, which replaced the 2022 version.
Here’s the political calendar: party primaries run from January to May, campaigns kick off April 29 and wrap up a day before the polls, while candidate lists will be released in phases from June through July.
Election materials, agents, and final preparations will be locked in by August and early September — leading up to voting day on September 26, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. using the open secret ballot system.
If needed, reruns are scheduled for October 10.
Ngwu says everything is being done strictly under legal guidelines, stressing that the timetable is designed to keep the process transparent and orderly.
Enugu’s council race is officially on the clock — and the countdown to September has begun.
